Simplifying European business travel regulation for GBTA

The Challenge

How to make European legislators see business travel as a growth multiplier?

Business travel is…big business. One of the highest-employing sectors in the world, it’s also one of the largest business multipliers, with efficient, simple systems for international business travel affording huge, exponential benefits to businesses globally, not least in Europe.

Yet despite this, the regulation of business travel – or, more accurately, the minimisation of regulation – is not always seen as a priority issue for otherwise business-focused legislators in the EU. The Global Business Travel Association engaged Grayling to help communicate with EU policymakers as to the wide-ranging benefits which could be gained from facilitating simple, easy business travel to the EU.

The Solution

Content and contacts that really made the difference…

Good public affairs depends on clear messaging, delivered well, to the right people, at the right time. Grayling conducted a deep audit of GBTAs messaging and content, created new briefing packs to share with political stakeholders across relevant DGs, and worked to turn occasionally dry econometric data into a compelling story of why business travel is such a significant part of the success of businesses across the European Union.

Thanks to strong connections throughout Brussels, and an intimate knowledge of the transport and taxation policy landscapes, Grayling helped GBTA identify the right platforms and messages to defend the interests of business travelers, as well as the most important contacts to engage.
