National Grid
Delivering the infrastructure to achieve net zero
The Challenge
National Grid need to build five times more electricity transmission infrastructure by 2030 than has been constructed in the last 30 years.
While the drive towards net zero is widely supported, the reality of new infrastructure can be contentious in the areas in which it is sited. With 17 major infrastructure projects as part of the ‘Great Grid Upgrade’, this necessary work can impact local communities.
The Solution
Comprehensive, early and transparent engagement with the communities in which National Grid is working.
We work with National Grid to engage with communities at the earliest stages of planning for this new infrastructure. We support National Grid to work with local communities and stakeholders to understand what’s important to them and to ensure we hear a wide range of views. Through this work, we support the development of the new projects in way that is sensitive to the local community, while backing National Grid to deliver initiatives that support those communities – from developing skills opportunities to supporting local projects.
