Meet our Creative Access Interns: Rebecca Ferreira

Rebecca Ferreira is a creative intern in the London Office. Rebecca joins Grayling as part of our Creative Access partnership.

What sparked your interest in a creative role?

I’ve always been super interested in visual communication and brand identity, particularly in how brands tell stories that resonate with an audience through advertising and campaigns. I always wondered if I had what it takes to work in a creative role where I could work on compelling campaigns that have a meaningful impact.

Can you tell us about your journey into the creative field? What were some key moments that led you here?

I graduated in English Literature not having a clue of what I was going to do after.

I worked in few different jobs post-uni until I took the plunge, quit my job & decided to put all my efforts to pursue work in the creative industry. I completed a 1-week Digital Marketing with Social Media with Iconic steps, learning under Creative Director, Mabdulle. A few months after, I completed another 3-month Digital Marketing course with WYK Digital. Both courses were incredibly insightful and gave me the confidence and skills to apply for this internship.

If you had to describe your creative style in three words, what would they be?

I would say sporadic, spontaneous, and collaborative.

What does creativity mean to you, and how do you incorporate it into your everyday life?

Creativity to me means being free, allowing your mind to run wild and opening yourself up to new things.

Each day, I make sure to be as present as I can be in the little moments of the day, whether it’s through the everyday mundane of life or through a conversation. There’s always pockets of inspiration around if you allow yourself to be open to seeing them.

Do you have a creative routine or ritual that helps you get into the zone?

I try not to force it, to be honest. It’s important for me to be in a relaxed headspace and not put too much pressure on myself to come up with something amazing on the first try.

I love having conversations with others, as I always feel inspired afterward and gain a lot of insights that give me good food for thought.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering applying for an internship in the creative industry?

Be determined and don’t give up, the right opportunity will come your way if you are truly committed to achieving it.

Go the extra mile and show your creative skills in whatever way you can e.g., creating a creative portfolio of work you’ve done or a mock pitch deck for a campaign idea and attach that to your applications/CV.

Choose a company whose work you admire and whose culture and values align with yours. Your passion for the company will naturally shine through in your application and interview, making you a great candidate.

What’s the most valuable piece of feedback you’ve received so far, and how has it shaped your work?

Advocate for yourself and your work; don’t hold back or feel the need to please everyone.

This feedback has helped me find and develop my voice, generate ideas, and create work that is authentic.
