Life at Grayling: Meet Kevin, Our Senior Global People Partner

Can you share with us the path you’ve taken into the world of HR/People and agency life?

I’ve managed to work in a range of different sectors, which have presented their own unique challenges and opportunities to grow. I started my life in HR in the recruitment sector, which was really fast paced. Afterwards, I worked in education which I found great for my development due to it being really process orientated as well as personally rewarding as I got a chance to help and support schools. I then moved to Grayling as I’ve always been interested in communications due to doing a degree in English Literature.

Tell us a bit more about the People team at Grayling?

We’re a really professional team and approach our work with a lot of dedication. But I think the most important thing is we don’t take ourselves too seriously and are down to earth, which I hope makes us feel approachable to colleagues.

Reflecting on your career, what accomplishment stands out to you the most?

I’d definitely say one of my biggest achievements was helping my team roll out a new HR & payroll system when I worked in education. We had to put everything in place with a tight turnaround time along with configuring the system to accommodate a really complex set of terms and conditions. And we just about managed to get it all done (just)!

What aspects of your role do you find particularly fulfilling?

I’m ultimately a people person, so the most fulfilling part of the role is trying to help employees (cheesy I know). I also like the problem-solving aspect of working in HR, where we’re often faced with challenging issues and need to think on our feet to diagnose situations and find solutions.

Outside of work, what do you do to relax?

I’m always binge-watching TV series or going to the cinema to escape. I’m also a massive sports fan – anything from football to Formula 1, you name it! The other thing I like to do is going on long walks with my fiancée, which helps take my mind off things – plus it’s an easy way to get some exercise!
